Laurel Peine has always loved art but got serious about getting a degree in art after her 4 children were all in school. She went back to college and had the opportunity to mentor under famous LDS artist, Del Parson for 4 years while receiving her bachelor's degree in art from Dixie State University. She was chosen by Del Parson to win the award of "Painting Student of the Year" in 2012. Laurel believes her talent of art was given to her as a gift to help bless and comfort others and this is her intent. Laurel does commissioned art along with other artwork that she sells. For 13 years after graduating with my bachelor's degree in art I did commissioned paintings for others of them or their loved ones in the Savior's arms to bring them comfort and peace. A few months ago I experienced some really hard losses that threatened to derail me and spiraled me down into what I like to call "survival mode." I'm sure many of you have also spent some time in survival mode and know what I'm talking about. I felt the need to visually feel and see the comfort and peace in my own life by being in the Savior's arms that I have tried to describe in my paintings for others over the years. This is the result and yes, it brings me comfort and peace every time I see it hanging on my bedroom wall. I titled it, "He Carries Me." After having this experience I changed the name of my business and my website from Laurel's Inspirational Art to Light of Christ Art because it never has been about me. It's always about Him! I am just the instrument (paintbrush) in his Hands.
